Medical Pressure Sensor ManufacturersThe main driving factor behind the increasing demand for medical pressure sensors is the expansion in the medical industry itself. As the average age of the global population increases, they need more medical care, which drives demand. Another factor in this growth is the increasing demand for medical research and pharmaceuticals. The medical pressure sensors market is a highly competitive one, and the number of applications for the pressure sensors continues to grow.

Some of the main pressure sensor manufacturers in the medical industry are NPX+, TE Connectivity, Honeywell, Amphenol, First Sensor AG, Edwards Lifesciences, and Smiths Medical. Several certifications are common for companies participating in this industry. Company level certifications include ISO 17664, ISO 13485, ISO 9001, FDA, and CMDR-Health Canada. In addition, some product-level certifications are also necessary for certain applications. Pressure sensors that will be used inside of the body are considered Class III medical devices, and each product must undergo the FDA certification process. Many of them must also meet ANSI, 3A, and EHEDG certification.

Pressure sensors for medical uses must be highly precise and be able to detect pressure changes quickly. They must be able to detect pressure changes in ultra-low pressure ranges. These devices must be able to maintain their accuracy and reliability over a long period of time. Some must be able to be sterilized and be resistant to conditions inside the human body. Devices to be sterilized must be able to withstand high heat, pressure, and humidity. Some of them must have dimensions that are extremely tiny. Some sensors can be found in the 2-100 micron range and are as small as living cells.

MEMS devices for the human body are often made with the most inert material possible. Silicon, glass, titanium, gold, and platinum are common. Any device that is to be used inside the body must also be corrosion resistant. Organic materials such as Praylene are also used because they are compatible with the human body. Many devices also use wireless telemetry and are designed to be ingestible or implanted. Disposable sensors are also widely used. New advances in medical pressure sensors include devices that are biodegradable.

The parameters for pressure sensors to be used outside of the body are highly variable, depending on the application. Gauge pressure sensors are used to measure airflow in devices such as inhalers and oxygen delivery systems. These are often combined with barometric pressure sensors to avoid deviations due to altitude. Piezoresistive pressure sensors are also used in many devices used outside of the human body.

Medical pressure sensors and pressure transducers are segmented by application. These include respiratory devices, patient monitoring devices, diagnostics, analytical equipment, surgical instruments, and others.
