A flush mount pressure sensor has a flat, smooth surface which is completely exposed to the pressure media. Flush mount pressure sensors are of two types. One is an oil-filled sensor with a thin diaphragm, and the other is a non oil-filled sensor with a thick diaphragm. The latter is more expensive than the former, but well worth the money, because of its tendency to withstand high burst pressures. A monolithic sensor is similar to a flush mount sensor, except for the fact that it has an indentation in the centre of the side exposed to the pressure medium. Monolithic sensors are the right choice for applications in industrial automation and the process control industry.
The flush mount sensor has two main advantages. One – is the wider pressure availability. Two – the application of flush mount sensors as absolute pressure sensors.
The monolithic pressure sensor can be considered as a not so expensive option if the application allows it.
