The test & instrumentation market provides services to many industries in the research and development phase of product innovation. Pressure sensors are used in the product development phase and when the product is in production to assure quality standards are met.

Growth in testing equipment for the wireless industry is the category that is growing the most rapidly. Growth in demand for consumer electronic devices and technological advances in telecommunications and networking are leading demand for pressure sensors in this category, too. The growth of 5G technology is expected to drive demand in the testing and measurement sector and for the pressure sensors that are used in the development of products.

Key players in the market for pressure sensors for testing and measurement include FUTEK Advanced Sensor Technology, Inc, Kistler Group, TE Connectivity Corporation, Honeywell International Inc., Omega, and Tekscan, Inc. Many of these companies must meet various ISO certifications, depending on the end-product that they manufacture. ISO 9001 is the most common certification needed for pressure sensors. On a product level, ATEX, UL, NIST, FDA, and other certifications might be required. 

The role that pressure sensors play in product development varies according to the process. The types and operating parameters needed for test & measurement sensors are varied, too. It is difficult to categorize the sensitivity ranges needed and the types of pressures that are recorded due to the wide variety of applications. There is a demand for pressure sensors that can withstand low temperatures, high temperatures, corrosive mediums, vibration, explosive environments, and that can respond reliable in environments with heavy electrical interference.
